Android Nougat Features

Multi-window mode, more interactive notifications … Focus on the functionalities brought by the new system of Google, whose final version is deployed on more and more terminals.

The deployment of the latest version of Android, “Android 7”, called Nougat, began on August 22nd. In early December, an Android 7.1 update was also released. In May 2017, Google reported that the beta testing phase of Android Nougat was over.

The beta version of its successor, for the time still called “Android O, ” is already available, and can be downloaded on compatible terminals. In this post, I will discuss android nougat features.

Tablets and smartphones receiving Nougat Updates

As usual, the Nexus and the devices imagined by Google will be able to benefit from the updates. For other devices, it will be necessary to wait for the announcements of each manufacturer and then of each operator (even if the delay between the first and the second tends to decrease significantly), to know the availability of the update. As in previous versions of Android, it may take several quarters, and some Android devices will not qualify.

Android 7.0 Nougat is now official and has even begun to be deployed on Android devices around the world, starting with the Nexus of course. Here are all the new features that you will discover with this new version.

When you’re a hardcore fan of Google and its Android operating system, we’re still expecting 2 major events every year: the presentation of the new OS version, and the presentation of new devices joining the Nexus range.

For the latter, it will still have to wait for a little. This does not prevent us from having already a lot of information about the next Nexus Marlin and Sailfish, waiting for a formal presentation to be organized.

Here all you need to know is the Android Nougat Features:

  • Split-screen mode
  • App quick switching
  • Redesigned notifications
  • Notification bundling
  • System UI Tunner
  • Customizable Quick Settings
  • Doze Mode on the Go
  • Multilanguage mode
  • New emoji
  • New Settings menu
  • Do Not Disturb mode
  • Data Saver
  • Seamless updates
  • File-based encryption
  • Improved call management
  • Android for Work

Android Nougat Features:

All the New and Hidden Features of Nougat are briefly discussed below:

Completely revised notification

The notification pane is the first thing you will notice when you switch to Android 7.0 Nougat, and for good reason: it has been completely revised. Compared to Marshmallow, you will now have many tools and options available from the first page of the component.

What’s more, the system allows you to customize the buttons available in the notification bar, once opened wide. The system no longer decides for you what is most useful to you: you define what you want to quickly access.

This is not all: the notifications themselves are reviewed. Now, these are richer and can display more. But most importantly, this new version integrates the support of answers directly in its heart: all applications can benefit, and you will be able to answer your messages without leaving your active application.

To avoid congestion, notifications from the same application will now be grouped together. As usual, you have the option of deleting everything with one click.

Fans of emoji and bilinguals will be happiest

The best Nougat android features which say new version also says the integration of the latest Unicode emojis. For this version, 72 smileys are added to Android for a total of more than 1500 emojis. We will soon have more need of words to understand, decidedly.

Of course, if, and a new feature should appeal to bilinguals: the ability to choose more than one language to use in the system at the same time. More necessarily need to play the schizophrenia to find henceforth.

Multi-window and actually multi-task

Android TV wins the Picture in Picture

Are you addicted to your Android TV box, like the Nvidia Shield TV for example? Good news, since your box will become even more powerful with Nougat. Finally, one of the most requested features has been integrated.

This is the ability to display a small window showing your current content over your interface. You expect a stream, and want to switch to YouTube in the meantime? No problem: put your stream into PiP, and launch YouTube before coming back.

A reworked Doze for less battery consumption

The best android nougat feature is less battery consumption. Doze was one of Marshmallow’s most notable improvements, but had a big flaw: it only worked when your phone was turned off and stationary. What keep the battery at night, certainly, but not really calm your consumption day by day.

With Nougat, Doze is now able to activate even when you are on the move, your phone in your pocket or your bag, and optimizes for you the energy consumption of your applications. A little more autonomy at the system level.

A saving of data really controlled

The top feature of Nougat Android N is At all times, Android has always integrated a data saver that allowed to have alerts when you were close to exceeding your plan. A convenient feature for that does not have an unlimited package or needs a full power connection from time to time.

This new update has pushed the regulation even further since Android Nougat will take charge of managing the data sent and received by your applications within the limit that you will give it. If you enable Data Saver, background applications will not be able to send or receive data.

More beautiful games, a better system

We have often talked about the Vulkan API , which is now available to developers on mobile and which allows increasing the graphic capacities of its titles while incurring a lower battery consumption.

This one is totally integrated with Android 7.0 Nougat. The GPUs that can benefit from it (especially the Snapdragon 820) will, therefore, benefit from taking advantage of it.

But that’s not all since, under the hood, other things change for the better. The JIT compiler of Android Nougat will improve the performance of smartphones while reducing the space used by applications. The whole thing makes the system and its updates much faster.

Virtual reality with Daydream

The best Android Nougat Features, we could almost forget it, but Android Nougat is also the new version that comes to integrate virtual reality to Android thanks to Daydream.

With Nougat, you will have access to an “RV Mode” which will allow you to simplify your interface for use via a virtual reality helmet. You will have easy access to your games and applications optimized for such use.

However, the platform made in Google is not yet quite ready. The terrain is there, and it seems to be fertile, but the helmets promised at IO 2016 are not yet on the market. A question of patience.

Always more secure and quick to use

If you are concerned about the security of your files, you will be pleased to learn that system encryption has once again evolved. This time, instead of encrypting per block, the system will encrypt each file making it more robust.

That’s not all, as the permissions have also been reviewed and especially one: rather than letting all your storage memory access to an application, you can specify a specific folder that does not leave the door open to others.

As for speed, Google teams have worked to ensure that the “application updates” that pollute our reboots after an update are permanently deleted. For this they created “Direct Boot” which will directly start the phone and let these updates be done in the background, transparently, not stopping our use.

More integrated and more frequent system updates

It’s not the only thing that’s going to be in the background. On some devices, including the upcoming Nexus Marlin and Sailfish, system updates will also be downloaded and partially installed in the background. This will result in faster updates to install and less stress to loop on “Check for new updates” at each deployment.

These are going to be more frequent since Google has discreetly announced that the system updates will now follow a predefined calendar. The developer said that “a schedule of regular updates over the coming quarters ” would be put in place, suggesting that we will see a version 7.1 by the fall.

The Nexus 2016 renamed Pixel will be released in 7.1 directly

Each year, new versions of Android are always accompanied by new devices created by Google in order to highlight the new features brought to the OS. The famous Nexus range, which will undergo profound changes in 2016.

Indeed, the Nexus range is complete: long live the Google Pixel! The name that was previously reserved for computers created under the auspices of the US developer will also be used for its phone range.

A change probably more marketing that truly founding a new impetus. The Google Pixel and Pixel XL have everything from previous Nexus. Except that they will come out directly to Android 7.1, due to the new schedule of OS update.

A new application launcher called Pixel

This is not the only innovation that Android Nougat brings to the Nexus range since it will also abandon its traditional launcher to the benefit of a new launcher called Pixel.

Google had already launched a similar situation with Google Now Launcher, which was a temporary exclusivity before going out for virtually all Android devices via the Play Store. Today, however, this one has the airs of exclusive overlay putting extremely prominent Google services.

For the moment, we do not know if it will remain exclusive to the next Pixel, or if it will also become available on other devices. We know however that this launcher is not present on Android 7.0 Nougat for the old Nexus, and is thus an exclusivity for these two new devices.
